Clamour over Gunners' interest in Rice grows fast

The Times,The Guardianand theDaily Telegraphhave all reported that Declan Rice is a major summer target for Arsenal, who want to snatch him under the noses of London rivals Chelsea from West Ham.

The 24-year-old is entering the final 18 months of his existing deal at the London Stadium, but would still cost the Gunners in excess of £80m, according toThe Times.

The Back Pages panel discuss the possibility of Arsenal making a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in the summer transfer window.

According to theDaily Telegraph, Rice remains committed to helping West Ham avoid relegation this season, but they claim he would cost only around £70m to any willing suitors this summer.

The Guardianreport the England midfielder is Mikel Arteta's top target and add that Arsenal are "confident" of beating Chelsea to the signing - which would likely break their transfer record, currently standing at £72m.

The newspaper also claims Rice has been made aware of how he would fit into Arteta's plans at the Emirates Stadium should he make a move to North London.

Of Arsenal's existing midfield options, Granit Xhaka is now 30 and Thomas Partey is 29, with all three papers saying the club are looking to increase their squad depth for the long term.

Arsenal are thought to be keeping an eye on Raphinha's situation at Barcelonaafter missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea.

Mudryk was not the only forward player that Arsenal have been looking at in this window and the club will remain prepared for an opportunity if it arises.

Raphinha is a player that Arsenal were tracking last year. The Gunners made a bid to sign Raphinha last summer when he was at Leeds, prior to the Brazil winger completing a£55m move to Barcelona.

Raphinha said "it's a dream come true since I was a kid" when he joined Barcelona. But the move has not gone as well as he would have liked, with the winger starting just seven games in LaLiga this season.

Facundo Torres- Arsenal target Torres has confirmed the Gunners made contact over a transfer as he awaits further talks (Evening Standard, January 17).

Victor Osimhen- Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle are set to battle it out to sign Napoli star Osimhen, according to reports (The Sun, January 17).

Leandro Trossard- Arsenal have been offered Trossard after losing out on long-term target Mykhailo Mudryk - but face competition from north London rivals Tottenham for the Brighton star (Daily Mirror, January 17); Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to end Trossard's unsettled spell at Brighton (The Independent, January 16).

Yeremy Pino & Moussa Diaby- Arsenal have been left licking their wounds with Mykhailo Mudryk now set to join rivals Chelsea, and could return to summer targets Pino and Diaby of Villarreal and Bayer Leverkusen respectively (Sunday Express, January 15).

Yunus Musah- Chelsea, Inter Milan and Arsenal appear set to miss out on a January deal for Valencia midfielder Musah, who is unlikely to leave the Spanish club until the summer at the earliest (Mail on Sunday, January 15).

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic- Newcastle look set to steal Milinkovic-Savic right from the hands of Arsenal (The Sun, January 14).
